The new season started quickly into the new year, with the first NCK Road Race event of the year. RES is fielding four karts in every event, plus the RS4 making a couple of appearances starting in May.
The first event of the year found us on the Cathedral called Laguna Seca. This is the birthplace of electric karting for our series, and we always like the trip. The format involves a heat followed by a feature.
In the group 1 heat, Matt Cresci and Marcos Ramirez traded the lead throughout the two lap contest, with Matt bringing home the victory with a best lap of 1:40.915, lowering his previous Group2 EKart record by more than a second. Kenyon Kluge and Charlie Stimmler followed with Richard Hilleman suffering from both battery and transponder problems.
In the Group 1 Feature, Matt repeated the feat, lowering his track record to a 1:40.396, with Marcos, Charlie, Kenyon and Rich following up. Charlie found himself on the podium in his first race, and Mat leaves with a commanding lead in the championship.
It was a great day with some great wheel to wheel racing, and the start of a full season of big track action.
